Bridal Bikinis are a Thing Now

What's a bridal bikini? Oh you know, it's a bikini...with a veil. Apparently Kate Upton likes to wear them as seen in these new ads for Beach Bunny Swimwear. You can check out the whole line HERE. Let's hope no one wears one of these down the aisle though...

ASK JOEY: Choose a Niche and Perfect it!

Photographers always try to take a million types of photos. My advice would be to choose a genre of photography (something you really like) and stick to it. That way, you'll also perfect that genre and your chances of getting those types of jobs will increase. Don't try to take so many different types of photos. Your portfolio will look like a hot mess! Just stick to one thing and perfect it - it will pay off. The good thing about MWN is that you can constantly test with models and talent - so don't forget to reach out to other members and do as much test shooting as you can!

IRIDAMETE
I was hoping you could look over my port to see how I'm doing and if I'm ready enough to start going to agencies. That is my next move, so I hope you can be as critical as can be. I believe I'm good enough to start testing with agencies. I can't wait to start branching out more so I can eventually become recognizable. There is no denying that I die for this industry and for my work to improve daily  I couldn't be any more passionate and I think with this attitude that I am on the right track. I'm planning on going to Chicago and New York to meet with agencies. Do you recommend any good ones for the type of work that I do?

I think you're ready to start meeting with agencies! You definitely have some talent.  I would start with a small agency in Chicago and New York and go from there.  I really like your lighting but I think you need more fashion shots - maybe try more shots in studios. Overall, the beauty of your photos is evident and I like how clean your photos are.  For a list of agencies, you can refer to the ModelWire Fashion Directory.
STUDIO BLACK
I would appreciate if you visited my profile and checked out my photos! I'm working on improving and honing my craft.

You seem to really enjoy what you're doing.  You should expand more - most of these photos look like photos that you would take of your girlfriend.  Do you want to do high fashion? If so, you're going to have to work on your portfolio. But if you want to stick to commercial, you need to do more commercial-type shoots. Your photos seem to be somewhere in the middle. I would do more testing and work with different models and see what you enjoy doing most and stick to it.
ROB LANG
I took some time off to work on my art work and am now re-entering the business. I just moved from Santa Fe to Fort Lauderdale and NYC. Please take a look at my work.  I just started contacting agencies.  Ford in Miami has been wonderful. Any suggestions or people that might be good to meet?  Please let me know!

You definitely need more photos in your portfolio. Are you looking to do Men's Fashion or Outdoor? You need a direction and then stick with it. Your photos are very 'rugged'. Is that the look you're going for? If you stick to these type of photos you'll get typecasted and work mostly in that field, so make sure you choose something you like.
DANNY CAMPBELL
I would like some professional advice and guidance on my portfolio. This is only my third year shooting and I want to create an amazing body of work!

Well you definitely photographed one great body of work. Where is the rest? Is that all you did in 3 years?  Here's some advice - take more photos!
TEEVONTEEPHOTO
I'd like to get your feedback on my portfolio and website and your thoughts on spec shooting a piece for submission to magazines.

There seems to be some confusion with what you've uploaded onto your MWN profile and your actual website - love the stuff on your site. You should upload more of them onto your MWN portfolio. Most of the photos on your portfolio are of topless ladies yet your portfolio on your website is more fashion. I like your fashion photos - if you can shoot spec, do it. With money as tight as it is today, you should get your foot in the door.  Good luck!
In the meantime,

Have a successful day!

Sandy Leong: A Commitment That Inspired a Collection

Submitted by Samantha Lefkowitz
When it comes to jewelry, few pieces are as significant as those given during a proposal or exchanged at a wedding.  Sandy Leong’s  “Commitment” collection celebrates the love and union between two people. And it was a commitment that inspired the collection, which is crafted in 18k gold with diamond accents.

Designer Sandy Leong was prompted to create the collection when a friend asked her to custom make a piece for he and his loved one. She turned to nature, a theme throughout her collections, for inspiration, as well as the joy in the people and places that make life so special. The natural earth-like texture in the collection demonstrates an important value that  Sandy Leong seeks to infuse into every piece she hand crafts in New York: giving back to our planet.
With her “Commitment” collection, Sandy Leong hopes to bring the warmth, sincerity and uniqueness of her friend’s union to other couples. She has always felt fortunate, since starting her jewelry career, to be able to spread her passion to others. The story and inspiration behind one of her favorite collections is rivaled only by what it represents at its core, the love between two people.

ABOUT SANDY LEONG
Individually handcrafted in America using 18-karat gold, Sandy Leong's feminine and tactile jewelry is designed with a focus on natural and organic themes.

We all know Crocs are comfortable, but we also know that they don't necessarily look that great.  CEO of Crocs, John McCarvel plans on boosting sales this season with a new line that is more "stylish."  But will you buy them?  Their new slogan, "A shoe for every you." brings on a line of boat shoes, heels and wedges.

JA New York Summer Preview #JANY

JA New York Summer Show
July 28th - 30th
The Javits Center, New York, NY

Evocateur: Gold Leaf Fascination
Designer Barbara Ross-Innamorati ofEvocateur was first inspired by an exhibition of paintings by Expressionist artist Gustav Klimt, which captured her imagination. Since then she says she has been passionate about gold leaf- the way it can transform objects into something almost magical. Each piece is made using a centuries-old gilding technique and burnished by hand. The flecks of 22k gold leaf or silver leaf are added to give the collections a vintage look. The new Humphrey's Safari collection, named after her recent trip to Africa, gives a portion of the proceeds to a school in rural Zimbabwe. Booth #2963

Heather Moore Jewelry Launches Bridal Collection
Heather Moore Jewelry is bringing her new bridal collection to the JA New York Show. Heather was recently awarded first place in the bridal category at the 2013 Couture Design Awards with an engagement ring from her new collection. Inspired by the 13 ladies at her office and studio who are getting married this year, the collection features engagement rings and his and her wedding bands, many of which can be personalized. There are classic and diamond bands available in yellow, white, rose and green gold, as well as palladium. Heather says a baby collection could be next! Booth #3049

Mattioli Unveils the Tibet Collection
Designer Licia Mattioligained inspiration for her new collection from an ancient custom in Tibet. Before a wedding, the mother of the bride fashions a ring for her daughter out of any wiry material that can be found in the village. It can be wire, string or even horse hair. In a sweet ceremony, the mother begins wrapping the material around the bride's finger to create a ring. Every wrap of the material signifies a year of good fortune in the marriage. When Licia learned of this custom in her travels, she declared “I must make this in gold!” The Tibet Collection of rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants are hand-made in 18k gold and each piece represents a wish of well being and prosperity.
