Fenway Boots! LL Bean Gives Away 50 Made-To-Order Boots Created With Fenway Park Rain Tarp.

Outdoor retailer L.L.Bean has revealed the most innovative version of its signature product: the Fenway Bean Boot. Made of upcycled Fenway Park tarp from the 2012 season, the one-of-a-kind boots will be made-to-order for a select number of lucky Red Sox fans who engage with L.L.Bean on Facebook and other channels.

The opportunity to win has already begun. When fans can visit Facebook.com/llbean to share their favorite Red Sox moment, they are entered for a chance to own a piece of baseball history. Submissions will be received through Sunday, October 20, 2013.

Company founder Leon Leonwood (“L.L.”) Bean believed in the reuse of materials long before the concept of “upcycling” came into vogue. The one-of-a-kind Bean Boots put the rain delay tarp that covered the Fenway Park infield in 2012 – the 100th anniversary year for both Fenway Park and L.L.Bean – to great use as the upper material of the weatherproof rubber soled boots.

“This project brings together two of L.L.’s favorite things: Bean Boots and baseball,” said Steve Fuller, Chief Marketing Officer for L.L.Bean. “As a season ticket holder, L.L. loved the Red Sox and he would be delighted to see the Fenway tarp put to use in a way that fans can enjoy.”

Originally named the Maine Hunting Shoe, the popular Bean Boot has seen a variety of style changes since its introduction in 1912, all remaining true to the original and still handcrafted in Maine. Early versions had a red brick sole, reintroduced for the 100th anniversary of L.L.Bean, and today’s collection includes an assortment of styles for women and men such as waxed canvas and shearling-lined leather.

Each of the 100 limited-edition Fenway Bean Boots will be custom made for lucky recipients at L.L.Bean’s manufacturing facility in Brunswick, ME.

“These unique boots are just one of the many ways L.L.Bean has demonstrated their innovative spirit throughout our partnership,” said Troup Parkinson, Red Sox Senior Vice President. “From the 100th anniversary tote bags, to The One Fund Boston Tote, to these Fenway Bean Boots, they continue to highlight new ways of bringing our two New England brands closer.”

Last month, L.L.Bean announced a contribution of $114,000 to The One Fund Boston following the sale of 3,500 limited edition totes also made from the 2012 Fenway Park tarp (shown above). The One Fund Boston totes sold out in just over a day with 100% percent of profits benefitting the cause.

Share your favorite Fenway Park moment with L.L. Bean to enter to win one of 50 pairs of made-to-order Fenway Bean Boots, handcrafted from the 2012 100th anniversary Fenway rain tarp.

Find out more about the contest and learn how L.L.Bean upcycled the Fenway Park infield rain tarp here

Fifty winners will be selected at random and notified on October 21. Additional ways to win – including on campus at select Northeast colleges – will be announced. Follow @LLBean for more details.

*All contest entries are moderated and will appear in the gallery within 24 hours of submission*

ASK JOEY: Acting Classes are ALWAYS a Good Place to Start

Getting started in the modeling industry is HARD. Unlike other businesses, if you do not have the right height and sizes, it will be almost impossible to succeed - no matter how beautiful or perseverant you are. Because of this, the majority of new models will find a lot more success in the commercial world. There are many more opportunities there for all looks, shapes and sizes.

My advice for most new models is to take acting classes. No matter what path your modeling career goes down (commercial, high fashion, etc...), acting classes will only help you grow. Who knows... Maybe you are that one in a million who has what it takes to be the next great supermodel, but do you know how to showcase your personality enough to sell something in a TV commercial, not just a print ad? Acting classes - always a great first step.

AMANDA MEINTS
I know I can be a big model, I just need some advice on where to start! Any advice you can provide would be great.
You are very attractive, though not a fashion model due to your sizes. In this business you would be considered a commercial type, which is great because there are a lot more opportunities for work. You have stated that you have an agent. Build from there. Consider checking with your agency to see if they would be willing to represent you commercially, in addition to print. Right now the only women at your height doing high fashion ads are celebrities. Consider creating a commercial plan with your agency and you could see more success.
CAITBAER
I'm new to the modeling world and would love some advice on how to make the most of my modeling career.
You live in NYC, are all the right sizes, and photograph well. A few of the pictures on your profile are a bit blurry, but you have enough shots to make appointments with all the agents in NYC. (Just make sure the photos in your book are hi-res and quality.) Get on the phone and get yourself in the door! I'm sure you'll find an agent who will want to work with you. They can get you tested to suit their needs for you.
CHRISTIANA HOHENRAINER
I'm extremely new and trying to get into modeling. Honestly, I don't know where to start. Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated!
You are a commercial type model due to your height and sizes, so don't try to go the high fashion route or you will be disappointed. You are very attractive and have a great look. I would suggest acting classes, which will only help a commercial model's career. You also need to be in a market like NYC, LA or Miami where there are agents and clients that work with actors and models. For now, start with a local agent that can get you work in Baltimore or D.C.
IVONA LIV
I would love to figure out how I can move forward with my career. I am still very new to both modeling and acting and have only had one photo shoot so far. My trouble is finding the right wardrobe to incorporate into my portfolio. Any advice?
You're off to a good start with your pictures. They are good enough quality to find an agent, so get yourself to LA and make appointments. Once you find an agent, they will help mold and shape your career. As far as newer pictures, they will be able to suggest photographers that they work with a lot and like. Many photographers will be willing to discuss wardrobe with you beforehand, based on your shoot locations. Don't be afraid to ask!
RANIE
I am really new to this field and would like to know how to get out there and get into modeling. I've only done a few shoots so far. What should my next step be?
You have the same look in all of your pictures (in terms of your expression). Try connecting with a photographer on MWN who would be interested in shooting you for trade. Also, you are on the short side so fashion modeling will be out for you. Are you interested in acting? If so, start taking acting classes and build from there. Once you have those skills in place, you can start working commercially. Also, you are going to need to be in a major market to work. Your best bet based on your location is San Francisco.

In the meantime,

Have a successful day!

A California native, Rachel Hill spent 13 years in NYC before relocating to the Bay Area last year. Rachel's interest in fashion began at an early age, beginning in third grade when she was known as the girl who only wore "black and white." Decades later, Rachel attended the London College of Fashion where she excelled in styling, trend forecasting, and merchandising, and later went on to style shoots for various clients including Nylon and Refinery 29. Rachel also produces a small vintage-inspired lingerie line called Lady Jane (www.ladyjaneny.com).

Why wardrobe stylist?
It's fun and it comes naturally to me. My day job is in an industry that doesn't allow a lot of opportunity for creative expression, so I've really enjoyed having this as an outlet for my creative energies.
Who is your favorite wardrobe stylist of all time?
This is probably a pretty common answer but I really think Grace Coddington is a genius; of course she has the ability to pull just about any item of clothing she wants but I think she really tells a story through editorial better than any other stylist working today.
What inspires you?
Old Hollywood films from the 30's-60's.
What do you look for when selecting a model to work with?
I like someone who has a can-do attitude. No one should have to feel uncomfortable at a shoot but there have been a lot of models who I've worked with that seem like they REALLY don't want to be there. It's always a lot harder to get a good shot with them. A positive attitude will come across in the final product.
What is your favorite store to shop at or your favorite brand?
I am constantly browsing Bona Drag, Opening Ceremony, ASOS, La Garconne, Ssense, Totokaelo, and Creatures of Comfort for new arrivals.
What is your favorite project you have worked on?
I really enjoyed working on the editorial film that I styled for Nylon x Charles David. It was a really fantastic team and really fun to do a film.
What is your personal style?
I am really all over the place but it'll either be something mid-century inspired or black skinny jeans and a faded rock t-shirt.
What genre does your work focus on?
I've mostly done editorial stuff so far. It allows for the greatest degree of creativity but also pays the worst!
What is your favorite band or song of all time?
I always have a different favorite band of the moment but of all time, probably the Clash or the Ramones. Hard to go wrong there.
What is your most embarrassing moment professionally?
I worked on this one underwater shoot one time with a very talented photographer named Rebecca Handler. Let's just say, styling clothes underwater is even more challenging than it sounds.

A Promotion For The Upcoming Release of "Carrie" Scares The Pants Off Of West Village Coffee Shop Patrons.

To promote the new adaptation of Carrie, an impressive stunt was pulled off in 'sNice Cafe, an unsuspecting West Village coffee shop. A young woman, feigning a fit over coffee spilled on her keyboard, uses telekentic powers to express her anger, freaking out the folks inside. A fake wall rigged to move a man, spring loaded books and pictures and moving tables seamlessly reacted to the young ladies' outburst, eliciting fabulously fearful reactions. See for yourself:

The video was the creation of Thinkmodo, the New York-based viral video marketing company and stars actress Andrea Morales. Thinkmodo co-founder Michael Krivicka told Yahoo Movies via email that it took an entire day to prepare for the stunt at the 'sNice Cafe in the West Village. Krivicka said, "The stunt team had to build a fake wall and rehearse the wall stunt. A separate crew was installing the hidden cameras and setting up a control room downstairs. A third crew was in charge of the props: spring loaded books, motorized tables & chairs, and spring-loaded picture frames. People screamed, they ran, and some were simply stunned and frozen - trying to process what they just saw," Krivicka said. "In other words, we basically scared the living hell out of people." Thinkmodo then compiled the best reactions into their viral video montage.

The new adaptation of Brian de Palma's classic horror film stars Chloe Maretz and Julianne Moore and is directed by Kimberly Peirce. Carrie is based on Stephen King's 1974 novel and hits theaters October 18.

The official movie trailer:

You can also create your own Carrie prom scene with the official free Carrie Buckets of Blood app, now available in the iTunes App Store! http://bit.ly/CarrieBucketsOfBlood

About Carrie:
A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz), a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother (Julianne Moore), who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King, Carrie is directed by Kimberly Peirce with a screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Produced by Kevin Misher, it stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, Gabriella Wilde, Ansel Elgort and Julianne Moore

May I also recommend the first movie adaptation of the book? Directed by Brian de Palma in 1976 and starring Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, Amy Irving and John Travolta, it's definitely worth a look.

Miley Mocks Herself (And The Government). See The Whole Funny SNL Music Video.

In case you missed it - whether on purpose or by accident, Miley Cyrus' hosting gig on SNL certainly had its moments, the best of which was when Miley and the cast parodied her own song, "We Can't Stop" by giving it a political twist.

Cyrus dressed as Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann with Taran Killam as House Speaker John Boehner suggestively danced and vamped to the new lyrics, which presented a raunchy Republican celebration of the government shutdown.

The full video:

"Cause we came to shut it all down now, no government around now, if you're not ready for healthcare, can I get a 'hell no,'" Cyrus sang while dressed as Bachmann, spanking Uncle Sam, licking Killam as Boehner, and holding and licking an Abraham Lincoln doll. "Government workers on a furlough, even though you're already paid low ... everyone in line for early child care, anyone who planned to see a grizzly bear, we are so shut down yeah."

Some of the best moments:

Mammaries To Build Your Muscles. Introducing Breast-Shaped Kettlebells.

You might have seen an image of these floating around the web and asked yourself if they were real. While not real breasts, they are a real product. The 306 Communication Agency in the Ukraine has designed and begun marketing cast iron dumbbells in the shape of a pair of breasts.

The kettlebells, which are said to soon be available in sporting goods retail stores (albeit I have no idea which countries), are available in three different weights:16kg, 24kg and 32kg and three different finishes.

The Kiev-based advertising, branding and design agency says "they were designed to increase male interest in sports."

Initially designed to have the female names Lolita, Monica and Pamela, it appears they are now merely calling them S (small), M (medium) and L (large).

above: a piece of direct mail touting the new product shows them in three different finishes (a matte black, high gloss silver and high gloss gold).

above: A manufactured prototype of the kettlebell (size m) for the castings made of natural iron.

Note: Ads of The World and Coloribus referred to the product as Bob-boobs, when showcasing the direct mail piece. But I did not found them named as that on the company website.

Kate Moss - Coming Soon To A Playboy Near You

*Image from Kate Moss for David Yurman campaign.
Kate Moss, one of the most famous supermodels of all time, is ditching high fashion for Playboy. Moss, who typically models for high-end luxury brands, will be shedding the designer duds for the 60th anniversary Playboy cover in January 2014. Rumors have been circulating for a while, after on-set hair stylist Oribe Canales said he styled her for the shoot. Playboy's editorial director Jimmy Jellinek finally confirmed the cover today.

Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot photographed Moss on a set designed by Chuck Close. Word is that Kate did pose completely nude but it is not known how much skin will be shown on the anniversary cover. Although she has never been shy about posing nude before, no one can argue that Playboy is quite a change from high fashion.  As the Huffington Post reported, "Kate is certainly not the first fashion model to cover Playboy (hello, Cindy!), but she might be the most elite of the bunch."

We must admit, we are curious about this collaboration. Will you be checking out the 60th anniversary issue in January?

Lady Gaga Covers Elle

A preview of Lady Gaga's cover shoot for the October issue of Elle hit the internets today, and we must say, it is stunning. In typical Gaga fashion, she continues to do the unexpected. This issue showcases a softer, more ethereal Gaga than we are used to. Her Elle spread will feature everything from fur to feathers, in soft, elegant pastels from designers like Versace, Dries van Noten, and Chanel. According to Elle's website, the singer will discuss her forced hiatus and how she handles pressure and the critics.
"What are you talking about, pressure? I'm great under pressure. I'm a warrior. I'm Rocky, round 12." - Lady Gaga

What do you think of Lady Gaga's latest Elle cover?

Meet Our Featured Members of the Month!

Meet our featured members for the month of September! If you would like to be considered as a future featured member, please email us at featured@modelwirenetwork.com. To collaborate with any of our members, reach out to them via their ModelWire Network profiles or post a project to our Projects page. Now, we're thrilled to introduce you to some amazing talent this month!

We're excited to feature Nicoline V., a newcomer to ModelWire Network. Nicoline is from New York, and you can check out her portfolio here.

Lionel Reyes is a Filipino-American portrait, fashion and rock photographer from Sacramento, CA. He received a degree in Digital Media Arts from California State University, Dominguez Hills. He currently works as a newspaper photographer, opened a photography studio and started his own company which specializes in fashion editorial and portraiture. In the short amount of time that he has been doing photography, his work has been featured in various publications.

Why photography?
I'm an artist and a sentimentalist. Photography is my creative outlet which allows me to capture special moments in time and show all of the beauty and art that's around us through my point of view.
Who is your favorite photographer of all time?
Cindy Sherman. She's one of the most influential photographers/artists of our time. I especially like how she takes on multiple roles in her projects.
What inspires you?
The source for my inspiration mainly derives from the female form, fashion (past, present & future), music, movies, and ethnic cultures.
What do you look for when selecting a model to work with?
Besides the obvious main factor of having a certain look that I'm searching for; professionalism, self-drive, and no drama are at the top of my list. Whether it's during basic email correspondence with me or we're on set at a photo shoot, I expect the models that I work with to conduct themselves with utmost professionalism. Also, please check all drama at the front door
What kind of camera/equipment do you use?
I use a Nikon D600. I use the Nikkor 28-300mm as my all-around lens, which is really useful for events and newspaper coverage. For fashion, I use the Nikkor 50mm and 85mm lenses.
What is your favorite project you have worked on?
My favorite project is usually the last project that I worked on because I try to out-do my previous shoot. After all, you're only as good as your last work. My recent favorite shoot was on-location at Stinson Beach, CA with a model from Stars Model Management. It was a gorgeous day, I had a great team of hair and makeup, and we had a beautiful model who was an absolute joy to work with and took direction really well, With all of those factors, who could ask for a better shoot.
What is your personal style?
My particular style is dependent on the gig/occasion. If I'm shooting on-location, I'm usually wearing jeans and a t-shirt with my trademark backwards black cap. If I'm shooting something important like a gala or a fashion show, I'm usually wearing something dressy and professional looking.
What is your favorite band or song of all time?
Hands down, my favorite band of all-time is The Beatles. Through their years, they managed to re-invent themselves musically and artistically. I hope to follow in their footsteps with my photography by re-inventing myself and evolving artistically.
What was your most embarrassing moment professionally?
I was shooting a group of doctors and surgeons and totally forgot to put an SD card into my DSLR. I was wondering why I couldn't take their pictures, so I looked to see if I had an SD card inside. Long story short, they saw me inserting the SD card into my camera and started chuckling.

MAKEUP ARTIST OF THE MONTH: CHRISTY MAURER

Christy Maurer arrived in Los Angeles from Alaska and fell right into the world of professional makeup. She attended Elegance International Makeup School in Hollywood, where she trained in makeup for television and film, print and fashion, as well as special effects. She was trained by some of the industry's top makeup artists, including Rich Knight. After graduating, Christy began working almost immediately as a makeup artist on a series of short films and other media projects.

Christy continues to develop her own signature style while under the mentorship of Emmy award winning makeup artist Patty Bunch. In an effort to continue developing as an artist and to better serve her clients on all levels, she enrolled at the Career Academy of Beauty and went on to graduate as a California State licensed medical esthetician. Christy continues to work as a makeup artist and hair stylist in Los Angeles, and around the world, while running her own private esthetician practice.

Why makeup artistry?
I've been fascinated for years with artists who had the ability to make people glamorous or hideous. To be able to reach into your own personal creative energy and paint on a living canvas, I thought, would be the most amazing thing a person could ever do. When I actually started doing makeup for photo shoots and started to learn about and get to know a lot of the women I've worked with, I found that the ability to make someone feel so much better about themselves - how they look and feel - is really the  most amazing part of my craft.
Who is your favorite makeup artist of all time?
I have to qualify two artists for this questions. For special effects work, hands down, Rick Baker. I've loved his work for so long, and I often cite him as one of the reasons I got into the film and television side of the industry. The other, Alexis Vogel. The quality of her work and list of personal clientele speaks volumes for itself. She is one of the few artists in the industry that I constantly use as a measuring stick against my work and abilities.
What product can't you live without?
I'd love to give you a laundry list of cosmetics, but really, when it comes down to it, any artist will tell you they live and die by the quality of their tools. For me, I can't live without my Bdellium brushes. I got my first set a few years ago and have been a devoted follower ever since. I've never believed that any product is perfect, but for me, their brushes are as close as it gets!
What inspires you?
Everything around me inspires me at some level. I know it sounds cliché but it's true. An image, a painting, a comic book, a movie or a piece of music. I can always take little things from these and make them my own. Maybe it's a design or a color palette or the angle of a line. It's really hard to say what will strike my imagination at any given time. But I've always felt the best and purest forms of inspiration come when you're not looking for them.
What is your favorite project you have worked on?
I have been truly fortunate to be asked to work with so many talent and creative photographers, models and actors, that it is really difficult to say. I did a movie with Lochlyn Munro, who is an absolute sweetheart. We had a blast and talked about hockey non-stop, which I love! But I'll always have a special place for this short film from Drop Dead Films called "Two" because it was the first time someone gave me the chance to really take control of a project and push myself. Plus it was a lot of fun to play with blood and fake monkey brain!
What is your favorite band or song of all time?
Music is a HUGE part of my life. I've always got something playing when I'm working or just hanging around the house. By far, my favorite band of all time is U2! They have been with me my entire life and they have to be the one band that I can listen to and tell you specific points in my life when I heard certain songs.
What is your most embarrassing moment professionally?
As much as I hate to admit this, I had just finished a shoot the night before and had to go out to a photo shoot the next morning. Low and behold, I forgot my brush roll on location and had to scramble to use q-tips and cotton balls for the application. Luckily the photos turned out good and we still got published in an overseas publication!
